Australia’s largest Meat Provider became a Cyber-Crime Victim
World’s largest meat providers based in Australia and North America became victim of an organized cyber-attack which affected their information systems, stated by Brazilian JBS SA (JBSS3.SA).
The cyber-attack led to acomplete shutdownof their Australian unit on31st May 2021. The company released a statement confirming that they were actively working to resolve the issue.
OnSunday, May 30, JBS USAdiscovered they had fallen victim to an organized cyber-attack, which impacted several servers supporting their North American and Australian IT systems. The company stated on31st May, U.S. time, that:
“The attack will take some time to resolve, which may cause delays in transactions with customers and suppliers.”
The incident disrupted operations across multiple Australian states. JBS Australia Chief Executive Officer,Brent Eastwood, spoke briefly to the industry news website Beefcentral on30th May 2021but did not disclose details or indicate how long the shutdown would last.
As theworld’s largest meatpacker, JBS operates inCanada and the United States, with31st May 2021coinciding with the U.S. Memorial Day public holiday. According to Beefcentral, Australian meat processing operations were severely impacted because they rely heavily onIT services and internet systems. The report also confirmed thatJBS’s Primo Smallgoods business in Queenslandwas affected by the attack.
